Mayalu
Hi, I’m Mayalu – a gentle soul with a tender heart and a second chance at life.
My name means the loving one, and even though life wasn’t kind to me at first, I never stopped being kind to the world. I was born behind a small house on the edge of the city. For a while, I stayed close to my mother. But one day, she was taken away, and I was left behind—confused, hungry, and scared. Eventually, they abandoned me to the open streets. I was just a baby. I didn’t know where to go or what to eat.
I wandered into the streets, sniffing around for food. I found colorful plastic bags, leftover food wrapped in wrappers, and bits of garbage that smelled sweet. I didn’t know it was dangerous—I was just hungry. So I ate whatever I could find. Soon, my stomach started to hurt. I felt heavy and dizzy. I collapsed on the roadside near a drain, unable to move. The sun burned my back, and the noise of the traffic terrified me. People passed by, but no one stopped. I couldn’t cry loud enough anymore. But then… someone noticed me. They saw the pain in my eyes, the bloat in my belly, and the life in me that was still holding on. They picked me up gently, gave me water, and rushed me to safety. They removed the plastic from my belly, fed me soft grass, and kept me warm and clean. And they gave me a name—Mayalu—because despite everything, I still nuzzled their hands and looked at them with trust.
Now, I’m recovering. I love being around people, especially those who speak softly to me and stroke my forehead. I’ve been told I’m the most affectionate calf at the shelter. But I know I’m not the only one. There are so many calves like me, eating plastic to survive, collapsing in pain, and waiting for someone to care.
Will you sponsor me—and help give others like me a second chance too?
Your kindness could change a life, just like it changed mine.
