Kabi

I have the heart of a poet, I notice the smallest details that others might miss. When someone calls my name, I’m always the first to notice and come running. I may seem quiet, but there’s a depth in me that speaks to those who truly listen.

During the start of the pandemic, I left my territory in search of food and water. Times were tough for all of us, and I was trying to survive. But the world was harsh, so I went to new areas to find food but I ended up getting chased by other dogs in the area, I was horribly injured, a huge gaping wound even exposed my throat. The pain was unbearable, but it didn’t end there, my disorientation led me to be hit by a vehicle. My leg was crushed, adding even more suffering.

I was found lying lifeless in the street of Kalanki. It’s been a long journey from those dark moments, but I’ve found kindness here at the shelter. Even though I carry the marks of my past with one eye blind and one limb missing, I’ve learned to trust again, slowly and steadily.
