Hi, I’m Bishwash/Ratey

Hi! I’m Ratey – but some call me Bishwas, because I’m learning to trust again. 

They named me Ratey because of my reddish-brown coat that shines like the early evening sun. But the name Bishwas, meaning “faith” or “trust,” came later—after everything I’d been through. I was born in a small shed, alongside my mother. But soon, I was abandoned far away as they didn’t want me. Just because I’m a male calf, I was seen as “useless.” After a while, I was abandoned. No goodbye, no second thought. Just left in an unfamiliar place, alone and frightened. I wandered, crying out for my mother, sniffing every corner hoping to find her scent. I ate whatever I could find—plastic, old leaves, even mud. My belly ached, and my heart ached more. People passed by, but no one really saw me. I was just another street calf, born in one place, dumped in another.

But fate had something better planned. One day, a kind voice called out to me. I was weak and scared, but I followed it. That voice led me to safety, to food, to shelter… and to love. Now I’m safe, and slowly learning that not all humans will walk away. I love gentle pats on my back, naps in the sun, and fresh green fodder. I’ve even started wagging my little tail when I see people I know. I may have been abandoned once, but today, I have bishwas—faith that things can change. And I wish for the same change for other calves like me.
