Sneha Care Home is a residential care facility for economically backward children infected with HIV who have lost one or both parents.
We believe a "home" is much more than a place of shelter - it is where a child belongs and feels loved and accepted; a place that gives a child his roots and his wings; a place of security and comfort and one that equips a child to embrace Life - with joy, courage, and faith.
Sneha Care Home is a "home" in every sense of the word.
Shining Star School is Sneha Care Home's academic programme. Using the National Open School System, our education system aims to help our children reintegrate into the larger community as responsible and productive citizens. Learning opportunities are given to everyone who chooses to walk with us - from different backgrounds and with different needs. Our academic programme achieves this goal in two phases - The Pre-Adolescent Phase and The Adolescent Phase.
Because pre-adolescent children are impressionable, this phase of the programme focuses on building confidence and self-esteem while inculcating morals and ethics in our children. In a nurturing environment, children are provided educational and recreational opportunities, adequate nutrition and healthcare, and psychosocial support. HIV status disclosure is done in a sensitive and responsible manner along with teaching our children how to deal with social stigmas associated with their status.
The Adolescent Phase of our programme focuses on aptitude recognition and skill development as we prepare our adolescents for practical integration with the larger community. Adolescents are encouraged to understand their HIV status and the responsibilities associated with being HIV infected. Our life skills and personality development programmes coupled with aptitude-based vocational training allows our adolescents a productive and responsible citizenship in the community.
