Bangalore: Snehadaan observed the world AIDSday 2007, involving the youth to ‘take the lead’ in the fight against HIV/AIDSand the stigma associated. A guided exhibition was conducted to make the youthaware of the infection and its possible preventive measures, make themconcerned of their fellow beings, and to get them involved with the worldcommunity in caring and support the persons living with HIV/AIDS. Itaimed at making each participant assuming theroles of educators to share the HIV-awareness at least to five acquaints.
A blood donation drive was alsoconducted in association with the Rotary TTK Blood bank, Bangalorein which 102 youth representing different colleges (viz. ChristCollege, Krupanidhi college of Nursing,Dharmaraam) and religious institutions, shared their blood as a sign of theirsolidarity in caring and supporting PLHAS. It can be viewed as a responsibleresponse to the growing requirements of blood and its components in caring thePLHAs.
The programme was marked with theparticipation of more than 450 people, who vowed to: 1. educatethemselves, 2. to be responsible, 3. to share the knowledge, 4. not todiscriminate and 5. to care and support. Putting on the red ribbon in theirfingers they shouted the slogan “STOP AIDS, KEEP THE PROMISE”.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Sr.Lillychengappura (President, CHAI, Karnataka) and Fr Mathew Perumpil MI,(President, Sneha Charitable Trust, India) delivered the key-note address.The final whistle to the programme was blown with the release of SNEHA VAANI,the quarterly news letter of SAMASTHA Project by Mr. Akshay Mallappa of RotaryClub
