The life of 6 year child Sanagangauda baffles our mind to witness the courage of the child to bear all the odds and yet live. The child is an orphan. He is aware that he is not wanted by his own. He is infected with HIV and TB and both on ART and ATT.
His relatives desire his death so that they can usurp his ancestral inheritance. Once the relatives from his mother’s side came and promised help, but then, they disappeared. Now we managed to convince the grand parents of his continued treatment in our centre.
Unfortunately he had an eye infection and a quack treatment has ruined child’s left eye. The meticulous care of our team brought the child back to life. The child is with us since a month and now recovering steadily.
We have decided to keep the child with us till we find a responsible care taker for the child has to be adhered to ART and ATT treatment. Besides, the child does not want to return to his home. But the child has his dignity and rights which was duly acknowledged. He will not converse according to our liking, but will speak to us when he wants to. I watched the child silently and fail to understand the mystery of suffering of the innocent. The capacity of the child to withstand all odds defying death and desolation was indeed awe-inspiring.
May Sangangauda’s silent suffering and courage lead us to greater commitment for the most neglected of our Society.
