It was on October 2005, that we received a phone call from one of our ex-inmates, telling the story of Mr. & Mrs. Prathap (name is changed). They were in a great need of help. But they were neglected by the hospitals and their beloved ones. Realising his helplessness, we admitted him and have given treatment in our center.
Mr. Prathap was a truck driver. He got married in 2001 and led a happy life and the little girl who was born to them increased their happiness. But it did not last so long. In 2005 he met with an accident and had a fracture in his leg and had to under go a surgery, where he found out be HIV positive. They were too shocked and confused to accept the fact. Later his wife also tested positive. Fortunately the child is not infected.
They were with us for 6 months. We helped to accept the fact and build up confidence to have a hopeful life. Initially they were sent to our Garments unit for the skill training. They did well; it gave a new outlook to their life. They realized that they were accepted and they can work as any other people without any discrimination. They could get along with other working in the unit. Later we helped them to find a rented house and their child is being educated in a near by English medium school. Now Mr. Prathap is working in garments unit, and his wife offers tailoring training at their house for the women. We helped her to get two tailoring machines from World Vision. Now they lead a happy life.
