Camillian Community, Eluru

In May 1996, Camillans took over the responsibility of running a leprosy rehabilitation centre from Fr. Jose Kaimelete HGN  and marked the beginning of a healing ministry in Eluru. Since 2000, the focus was to serve the Leprosy patients. In December 2004, a new ministry was launched to care for the PLHA called, “Sneha Kiran”, ‘Ray of love’.  It is a distinct mark of community based care and support for those who are infected and affected with HIV/AIDS and particularly for infected and affected Children, in and around Eluru.  Sneha Kiran is also involved in rendering services to elderly poor. In 2008, Sneha Kiran Shifted to Secundrabad and is now administering its HIV ministry through the centre. The Leprosy ministry is still continuing at the Eluru community along with the major activities listed below.

Objectives

  • Supporting persons suffering form HIV/AIDS, especially those ostracized by their families and society.
  • Providing treatment, nutrition and relaxation for the well being of the persons suffering from HIV/AIDS
  • Restoring self-confidence and encourage changes in life-style through behavioral interventions
  • Providing self employment through rehabilitation services
  • Providing information, education through outreach Programmes for the general public.
  • Extending care and support for the elderly poor
